Affordable Housing Reports

 

These reports and tools highlight County-wide and regional housing needs, polices and outcome measures.

  • Affordable Housing Principles and Goals : In December 2000 the County Board adopted new Affordable Housing Principles and Goals to guide housing policy in Arlington.
  • Affordable Housing Roundtable and Ordinance: in 2005, the Arlington Affordable Housing Roundtable approved a compromise plan in which developers will partner with Arlington to preserve and create affordable housing throughout the County. 
  • Affordable Housing Task Force Report: In 2000, the Affordable Housing Task Force recommended ways to improve how Arlington addresses its growing affordable housing crisis. 
  • Accessory Dwellings, Information and Application Process: On July 19, 2008 the Arlington County Board approved amendments to the Zoning Ordinance that will allow accessory dwellings in single-family homes and non-relatives to live in family/caregiver suites in single-family homes.
  • Past Annual Affordable Housing Targets Reports: This annual report details the County's progress toward its nine Affordable Housing Goals, each of which has up to four numerical targets.
  • CAPER: At the end of each fiscal year, Arlington's Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report (CAPER) details the County's progress toward meeting the goals outlined in its FY 2011-2015 Consolidated Plan.
  • Consolidated Plan: The Consolidated Plan provides the strategic framework for housing, homelessness, community development, and economic development activities over the next 5-year period. It is a planning document required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) which builds on a comprehensive community consultation process.
  • COG Report: “Finding a Way Home”: This regional report, available at the website for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), addresses the affordable housing crisis with a series of housing policy principles and goals as well as a proposal to create a Regional Housing Trust Fund.
  • Fair Housing Report: An Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing :
    The AI is an assessment of how laws, policies, real estate practices and local conditions impact housing choice and highlights areas where corrective actions might broaden housing options for those protected by fair housing laws. 
  • Housing Needs Survey Report :
    The County commissioned a survey in early 2002 to determine housing needs of Arlington residents. The survey results will guide County decision-makers as they develop housing policies.
  • Targets Report: Setting Numerical Targets for Arlington's Affordable Housing Goals. Numerical Targets that help guide and measure the County's progress towards meeting the adopted housing goals. Approved by the County Board in December 2003 and revised in 2011. Report includes recent performance data as well as housing trends.
  • List of Arlington's Approved Targets and Goals: A list of the County's Affordable Housing Goals and the performance targets for each.
  • Living Near Your Work in Arlington County CAFs - Mapped: Affordable rental housing often enable families who work in Arlington to shorten their commutes.
