Neighborhood Conservation LogoNeighborhood Conservation's Mission: To enhance residential areas by providing citizen-initiated public improvements in a timely manner, based upon regularly-updated, neighborhood-developed plans.

Program in Brief:Created by the County Board in 1964, the Neighborhood Conservation Program is a unique tool that provides funding for a variety of capital improvement projects. Improvements include installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, streetlights, park improvements, neighborhood art, and beautification.  Projects are based on written plans submitted to the County for review and acceptance.

Each community in Arlington that participates in the Neighborhood Conservation Program has a Neighborhood Conservation Representative that serves as a liaison with county staff in the development of a neighborhood plan. The plan ultimately reflects the desires of the community as a whole. All NC Representatives serve on the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee (NCAC) (38.9 K PDF format), a body that selects plan based improvement projects for funding.

Additionally, the Neighborhood Conservation Program serves to elicit community engagement by bringing citizens together to help plan the communities they live in. Because of this civic component, the program has been a model for other communities around the country. It is this type of grass roots engagement that helps make Arlington a great place to live

Neighborhood Conservation is pleased to announce the re-establishment of Arlington County’s Missing Links Program in order to complete portions of missing sidewalks in residential areas that span three properties or less. Please see the missing link application (36 K PDF format), for additional information.

Neighborhood Conservation is pleased to announce the Micro Projects Program established to fund small scale projects in NC participating neighborhoods. Please see the attached application (11.83 K PDF format) form for more information. Here are the Approved Micro Projects (52.5K PDF format)  for Spring 2011.
