Welcome to Planning Research and Analysis

 

The Planning Research and Analysis Team (PRAT) is part of the Arlington County Planning Division and is responsible for maintaining, analyzing, and disseminating information related to planning in Arlington County.

PRAT’s mission includes providing demographic information, including reports based on the US Census; tracking and reporting on commercial and residential development trends; and creating the official County forecast of employment and population for long-range and transportation planning.

Major Planning Corridors - Demographic Trends examines trends among the Major Planning Corridors and Arlington County using the 2006-2010 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates.  

The variables discussed in this document include: population, density, age generations, diversity, education, income, work place, means to work, time to work, and vehicle availability.

Development Tracking Map
To accompany the release of the Development Highlights 2011 report, the Research Team and the GIS Mapping Center have created an interactive map of commercial and residential projects.   The interactive map shows the location, data, and pictures (where available) of projects completed, under construction, demolished, or approved by the Arlington County Board.

2005-2009 American Community Survey
A series of twelve reports that examine the 2005-2009 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates for Arlington County, Virginia.  Reports will be released from February 2011 -  July 2011.

Results are in from the 2010 Census Redistricting Data Summary File!  The purpose of this early data release was legislative redistricting and is limited to counts of total population, race and ethnicity, persons age 18 or over, total housing units, and housing unit occupancy. 

2010 Census Results

  • Development Reports and Statistics  PRAT staff maintain a development database that tracks residential and commercial development in Arlington County from 1960 through the present and produce a variety of development reports, including quarterly and annual development summaries.

 

  • Demographics  PRAT staff analyze and disseminate demographic and other data about Arlington's population, households, and employment.

 

  • PRAT issues Planning Information Reports (PIRs) on topics of interest to County staff and the public, including Arlington Land Area by Zoning District, Cost of Living, and Country of Origin of Foreign-Born Persons.

 

  • Historical Images  Arlington County historical images going back to the 1930s can now be accessed online.  Instructions on using the historical images website can be viewed here (PDF Format, 2.46 MB).
