Welcome to Planning Research and Analysis

The Planning Research and Analysis Team (PRAT) is part of the Arlington County Planning Division and is responsible for maintaining, analyzing, and disseminating information related to planning in Arlington County.

PRAT’s mission includes providing demographic information, including reports based on the US Census; tracking and reporting on commercial and residential development trends; and creating the official County forecast of employment and population for long-range and transportation planning.

Development Reports and Statistics PRAT staff maintain a development database that tracks residential and commercial development in Arlington County from 1960 through the present and produce a variety of development reports, including quarterly and annual development summaries.

Demographics PRAT staff analyze and disseminate demographic and other data about Arlington's population, households, and employment.

PRAT issues Planning Information Reports (PIRs) on topics of interest to County staff and the public, including Arlington Land Area by Zoning District, Cost of Living, and Country of Origin of Foreign-Born Persons.
