    Disability Advisory Commission

     

    The Arlington Disability Advisory Commission is a 13-member citizen advisory group appointed by the County Board to direct community attention to the full range of needs of persons with physical disabilities, advise the County government on ways to meet the needs of persons with physical disabilities, and advise and assist the County government in seeking compliance with Federal and State legislative mandates. Commission members participate on the Planning Commission's Site Plan Review Committee, Community Development Citizens Advisory Committee, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

    Arlington County Disability Services Board 2009 Needs Assessment

    Every three years, each local Disability Services Board (DSB) conducts a needs assessment to obtain local information on the needs of people with disabilities in its own area. This information is of great help to the DSB when setting priorities, planning DSB activities, and obtaining support from local government. The local DSB needs assessments are also important to state-level agencies or organizations, as they provide much needed information about needs, service gaps, and systems issues across the state.

    Disability Advisory Commission Seeks Members

    The Arlington County Disability Advisory Commission is accepting applications for new members. People with disabilities, community leaders, and business people are urged to apply. The Commission is seeking expressions of interest from persons who would like to serve on the Commission and/or one or more of its committees. The Commission is interested in many issues including private and public development, affordable & accessible housing, and equal access. The Commission meets monthly at 6:15 PM on the 3rd Tuesday. Commission members are also expected to serve as liaisons with one more other County commissions and boards. Time commitment is approximately 6 - 8 hours per month. Individuals interested in serving on the Commission or any of its committees should contact the Disability Advisory Commission staff at (703) 228-7096 or via e-mail for more information.
