The mission of the County Attorney is to ensure that all County transactions are conducted in a legal and ethical manner.

The County Attorney provides legal counsel and advice to the County Board, County Manager and staff, County departments, agencies, boards and Commissions, School Board and Retirement Board, and provides representation to them in litigation in state and federal court, as well as before various administrative agencies.

U.S. District Court rules in Arlington's Favor in initial HOT lanes arguments
Arlington County prevailed in the first court arguments in the County's lawsuit against the federal government and the Commonwealth over the HOT lanes project . The decision allows the County's suit to move forward. (April 21, 2010) Read the decision (.pdf)

  • On June 22, 2010, County Board Chairman Jay Fisette issued a letter in response to a letter from the Northern Virginia Transportation Coalition and others requesting the County Board withdraw its lawsuit regarding the project and work with the Commonwealth to advance the project.
