Locally, we recommend taking Metro Bus and/or Rail, as parking is very limited. The Courthouse Metro station is 1/2 block from the Courthouse Plaza County Office Building, the Courts and Police Building and the County Jail.

The Court House area is served by Metro bus 38B, 4B, and by ART Bus 41, 61, and 66

Getting around in Arlington County - a primer

By Automobile:

From Downtown Washington, D.C.:

Take Constitution Avenue (US 50) west across the Roosevelt Bridge. Exit to the right to continue on US 50 (Arlington Blvd.). Exit right onto North Courthouse Road, make the second left onto 14th Street North, then the first right at N. Uhle St. into a metered parking lot (or continue on 14th Street another block to a right on N. Veitch St., where underground, metered public parking is available).

From the East or Northeast in Maryland:

From Annapolis follow US 50 (John Hanson Hwy.) west to New York Avenue in the District. From Baltimore and points north, follow I-95 to the Capital Beltway, then continue on the Beltway south to Exit #22, RTE 295, Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Follow 295 south to New York Avenue in the District. From New York Avenue, turn left onto I-395 South and follow signs for VIRGINIA. Exit right at Exit #11 to Northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Take George Washington Memorial Parkway north toward Washington, continuing beyond the exits for I-395. Exit to the left and follow signs for US 50 WEST (Arlington Blvd.). Exit US 50 onto North Courthouse Road, make the second left onto 14th Street North, then the first right on N. Uhle St. into a metered parking lot (or continue on 14th Street another block to a right on N. Veitch St., where underground, metered public parking is available).

From the Northwest in Maryland:

Go south on I-270 to the Northern Virginia exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway). Cross the Potomac River via the American Legion Bridge. Take the left exit at Exit #12, Dulles Access Road east to Washington. Continue to I-66, follow I-66 EAST to Exit #72, the Spout Run Pkwy. exit. Turn right onto Lee Hwy. (US 29), turn right at the fourth traffic signal onto N. Veitch St. Proceed straight through a pair of traffic signals onto 15th Street N. Courthouse Plaza is on the right. A metered public parking lot is just beyond on the right.

From the West in Virginia:

From Falls Church, Fairfax, Centreville, Manassas and other western points, follow I-66 EAST to Exit #72, the Spout Run Pkwy. exit. Turn right onto Lee Hwy. (US 29), turn right at the fourth traffic signal onto N. Veitch St. Proceed straight through a pair of traffic signals onto 15th Street N. Courthouse Plaza is on the right. A metered public parking lot is just beyond on the right.

From the South in Virginia:

From Springfield, Woodbridge, Fredericksburg, Richmond and other southern points, follow I-95 north, crossing the Beltway onto I-395 (Shirley Highway). Take Exit #8 for Washington Blvd. (RTE 27) west. Follow Washington Blvd. to the fourth traffic light, and make a right onto Clarendon Blvd. Go to 2100 Clarendon Blvd.; parking is available in the underground garage for 2100 & 2200 Clarendon Blvd., or in a metered parking lot in the next block.

By Airplane:

From National Airport via Metrorail:

Take Metro’s BLUE line in the direction of Addison Road to the ROSSLYN station. Transfer on the lower level to the ORANGE line in the direction of Vienna. Travel one stop to COURT HOUSE. Courthouse Plaza is right above the Metro Station. Trains run every 6 minutes during rush hours, 12 minutes off-peak on weekdays, and every 13-16 minutes on weekends.

From National Airport via Rental Car:

Take George Washington Memorial Parkway north toward Washington, continuing beyond the exits for I-395. Exit to the left and follow signs for US 50 WEST (Arlington Blvd.). Exit US 50 onto North Courthouse Road, make the second left onto 14th Street North, then the first right on N. Uhle St. into a metered parking lot (or continue on 14th Street another block to a right on N. Veitch St., where underground, metered public parking is available).

From Dulles Int’l. Airport via Rental Car:

Drive east toward Washington, D.C. on Dulles Access Road, and continue onto I-66. Follow I-66 EAST to Exit #72, the Spout Run Pkwy. exit. Turn right onto Lee Hwy. (US 29), turn right at the fourth traffic signal onto N. Veitch St. Proceed straight through a pair of traffic signals onto 15th Street N. Courthouse Plaza is on the right. A metered public parking lot is just beyond on the right.

By Railroad:  

AMTRAK serves Arlington through Washington’s Union Station and Alexandria’s railroad station. Both offer easy access to METRO subway stations. From Union Station, take Metro’s RED line toward Shady Grove, transfer at Metro Center to the ORANGE line toward Vienna, exiting at the COURTHOUSE station.

From Alexandria, enter the King Street Metro Station and take the BLUE line toward Addison Road, and transfer at Rosslyn to the ORANGE line toward Vienna, exiting at the COURTHOUSE STATION. See "From National Airport via Metrorail" paragraph for more details.

From the Virginia suburbs via Commuter Rail:

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) offers rush hour trains from Manassas, passing through Burke and West Springfield, and from Fredericksburg, passing through Quantico, Woodbridge, Lorton and Springfield. Connections to the Metro subway may be made at Franconia-Springfield, Alexandria, Crystal City, and L’Enfant Plaza and Union Station in D.C.

From the Maryland suburbs via MARC Rail:

MARC Commuter Rail offers 3 lines to the Washington, D.C. area. The Camden line runs from Baltimore to Washington, D.C.; the Penn Line runs from Perryville through Baltimore to Washington, D.C.; and the Brunswick line runs from Martinsburg, WV through Brunswick, Germantown and Rockville, MD., to Washington, D.C. All lines run to Washington’s Union Station.

From Union Station, take Metro’s RED line toward Shady Grove, transfer at Metro Center to the ORANGE line toward Vienna, exiting at the COURTHOUSE station.
