Minimum Requirements
- Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalent experience.
- At least 18 years old at time of Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).
- Good physical condition.
- Must be able to provide a valid driver's license from the applicant's place of residence at time of appointment. Note: Employees are not required to live in Virginia.
- Ability to complete Fire Recruit School.
- Ability to do prolonged and physically strenuous work under hazardous conditions.
- Must be able to provide identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
Special Requirements
- Must sign a "Condition of Employment" agreement.
- Due to the many heart and lung risk factors encountered by FF/EMTs, Arlington County requires that all new uniformed Fire Department employees be non-tobacco users and sign an agreement that they will not smoke or use smokeless tobacco on or off the job during their tenure of employment.
In addition: Special Notes
- A good driving record and a clean criminal history are essential.
- Applicants engaging in any activity that would support a felony conviction are unlikely to receive a favorable consideration.
- Recent convictions for DUI or DWI or Reckless Driving, as well as multiple convictions for Speeding or other moving violations may result in disqualification.
- Incomplete and/or inaccurate information on the background form may be cause for rejection .
