Fire Safety Guidelines for High Rise Structures

 

  • Know how to report an emergency, both fire and medical emergencies by dialing 911.
  • Know the exit route from your workspace to the exterior of the building.
  • Be familiar with your Fire Safety Evacuation Procedure.
  • Fire Extinguishment:
    1. Know the location of fire extinguishers and how to operate them.
    2. Most high rise office buildings are protected by automatic fire sprinklers.
    3. Do nothing - report the fire and leave the building.
  • Fire Safety concerns in and around your workspace.
    1. Use of extension cords.
    2. Use of space heaters, fans, coffee makers etc.
    3. Turn off equipment when leaving for the day.
    4. Accumulation of combustibles.
  • Obstructing fire exits and blocking open fire doors.
    1. Do not place anything in an exit path that could cause someone to not be able to safely leave the building.
    2. Do not block open any fire and/or smoke barrier door.
