Pandemic Flu: Resources for Individuals and Families

GenerationsAs you plan, think about the challenges that you and your family may face—particularly if a pandemic is severe. H1N1 is behaving much like seasonal flu, but seasonal flu should be taken seriously because 36,000 people die every year from this disease and its complications. The best course of action is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. You should:

  • Arrange care for your children, those with special needs and pets, in case you get sick
  • Keep two weeks worth of food (non-perishables) in your home
  • Keep health and emergency supplies, including prescription drugs, at home
  • Get flu shots for you and your family

All the latest information and guidance is available from CDC's Flu.Gov, including

  • Basic information about the flu
  • Vaccination updates
  • Prevention and treatment tips
  • Advice for parents and expecting parents
  • Guidance for people with health conditions, caregivers and travelers
