Lots of neighborhoods and community groups held community-building events on May 15, 2010 - Neighborhood Day! There were yard sales, pot lucks, car washes...and the highlight of the day was the Twilight Tattoo at Bluemont Park. Check out below all the great things you missed!
Twilight Tattoo at Bluemont Park
Arlington's neighbors at Ft. Myer (now known at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall) is hosting a Twilight Tattoo for the community! Come pack a picnic and bring the family to this hour-long military pageant featuring The Old Guard and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." The performance provides a fast-paced journey through Army history, from Revolutionary times to your Army's involvement in current military operations. Come and experience a glimpse into American history with The U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, The Continental Color Guard, The Commander-in-Chief's Guard and The U.S. Army Drill Team. Bleacher seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, but there is plenty of space for chairs and blankets. Take metro to Ballston and walk or ride your bike down the Bluemont Junction Trail to the park.
Highland Park-Overlee Knolls Neighborhood Association 3rd Annual Neighborhood Fitness Run
Neighbors of all ages are invited to join us for an early morning one-mile Fun Run. Kids can also visit the Arlington County Fire Trucks and participate in other fun fitness and craft activities too!
Our Savior Lutheran School Community Yard Sale & School Open House
Come by our community yard sale featuring children's clothing, toys, sports equipment, household items, garage and garden tools, furniture, electronics, books, movies, music and more. We will also be hosting an Open House at Our Savior Lutheran School where you can meet teachers and students as you tour our school. Come out and get to know us!

Calvary United Methodist Church Community Yard Sale
Check out multiple vendor booths with items for sale from the church and community members, as well as a bake sale, hamburgers, hot dogs, and refreshments. Have items from spring cleaning that you would like to sell? You can "rent" a parking space for a $10.00 donation (includes table and chairs) and bring your items to sell at the church. The proceeds from this year's event will go towards Calvary's Vacation Bible School and sending participating kids to Camp Highroad this summer.
Nauck Community Yard Sale
Cost: $5.00 for a space; $15 for a table and chair. No food sales!
Arlington Traditional School PTA Meet and Greet
Lemonade, coffee and cookies and free activities open to all! Kids sign-up when you arrive and help on the Lemonade Stand. They'll be sack races, and games, art in the garden, litter pick-up and gardening chores, and a garden advice table. Event cancelled if raining. Advent Lutheran Church Yard Sale, Car Wash, Self-Guided Labyrinth Walk
Advent Lutheran Church will be transformed this summer and fall into a more accessible and beautiful facility! Please join us on Neighborhood Day to celebrate the beginning of our building transformation process! We are clearing and cleaning out the building, which means great finds at our yard sale. Our youth are anxious to wash your car. And our peaceful labyrinth is available (as always) for quiet contemplation.
The Children's School/Westover Neighborhood Spring Fling
The Children's School will be hosting a Spring Fling with a silent auction, bike parade and moonbounce. We will have lots of games and activities geared for families and young children.
Arlington First Church of the Nazarene Mulching Project at Dawson Terrace Center
Gather at Dawson Terrace to mulch the trail from the playground to the Old Castle. Drop by anytime between 9 am and 5 pm. Help for an hour or two or stay all day. Water and Gatorade will be provided by Arlington First Church of the Nazarene. If you wish, bring work gloves, equipment (shovels and wheelbarrows) will be provided.
Help Keep Arlington Parks Beautiful!
Join us at Tuckahoe Elementary School to remove invasive plants at Tuckahoe Park. Invasive plants crowd native ones out for space and light and some can even grow a "mile-a-minute"! Come learn what these troublesome beasts look like and help rescue our parks from these alien invaders! Those Ages 9 to adult are welcome. If you have your own garden gloves and tools, please bring them along. Be sure to come dressed for work, wear sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves and perhaps a hat.
Office for Teens Yard Sale and Car Wash
Set up a table to sell your goods (only $20 per table), check out all the great items for sale…and even get your car washed! It's a one-stop shop that benefits Arlington County Teen Programs.

Yorktown Civic Association Neighborhood Day Festivities at the Chestnut Hills Park
Come enjoy activities for kids, special visits from Arlington firefighters, and lots of other fun activities for neighbors of all ages.
Restoration Anglican Church Car Wash and Food Drive for AFAC
Join your Cherrydale neighbors at a car wash to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Free with a donation of a nonperishable food item. We are looking specifically for donations of cereal.
Nauck Dedication to Dunbar Homes
The Nauck Civic Association in partnership with Stanley Martin, developers of the Shirlington Crest and the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington will host a dedication ceremony of the landmark dedicated to the Dunbar Homes and will feature an art exhibit in some of the models that will be open for tours.
Claremont Citizens Association Community Cookout
Community cookout in the Claremont Mini Park in celebration of Neighborhood Day! Games for kids of all ages are planned, and a number of special guests are being invited.
Fairlington Citizens Association Fairlington Day
Join neighbors for fun and games on Fairlington Day! To foster community pride, the FCA is proud to host this outdoor event featuring free hot dogs and soft drinks, while supplies last. Dedication of the newly constructed picnic shelter at noon. Visit from an Arlington County official. Pick-up games of volleyball and soccer. Face-painting for the kids. Taste of Arlington
Each year Taste of Arlington transforms the Ballston area into a lively street festival, complete with noteworthy restaurants, live entertainment and children's activities. Over 40 restaurants participate in this spectacular community event, which draws an average of 15,000 people each year who live in the greater Washington, D.C. area. This year, the event will expand its footprint by providing a deeper flavor of Arlington, showcasing the county's urban villages such as Ballston, Clarendon-Courthouse, Columbia Pike, Rosslyn and Crystal City. In addition to all the amazing food, Taste of Arlington® offers a fun-filled day with singing and dancing performances by local artists, street performers and children's activities.

Get to know your neighbors with a variety of great things to do! The day starts with a Red Cross blood drive at Patrick Henry Elementary School from 8:30am- 12:30pm. Next up is a Neighborhood Fun Run at 11:30am-12:20pm. Join us for a Neighborhood BBQ from 1-4pm, followed by our new annual tradition…a neighborhood softball game! 4:00-6:00pm. This year it's Arlington Heights vs. Alcova Heights!
