Neighborhood College

Arlington Neighborhood College 2013 is a free eight-session program taking place this year on consecutive Thursday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. between April 4th and May 23rd. Participants will learn how various County departments operate and what services the county government provides, as well as gain and sharpen communication, coalition-building, and networking skills that will help them become more effective community activists and leaders.
Who: Open to people aged 18 or older who live in Arlington County, with priority given to residents of the 11 Neighborhood Strategy Areas: Buckingham, Columbia Heights West, Pike Village Center, Nauck, Arlington View, Long Branch Creek, Radnor/Fort Myer Heights, Barcroft, Lyon Park, Penrose, And Westover
What: 2013 Neighborhood College. Dinner will be provided. Childcare will be available if needed. Spanish simultaneous interpretation will be offered. Free parking available.
When: Weekly starting Thursday April 4, 2013 - Thursday, May 23, 2013 6 – 9 p.m.
Where: Sessions 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 – Arlington Career Center, 816 South Walter Reed Drive; Sessions 3, 5, 7 & Graduation Ceremony (Tuesday evening, June 18) – County Building, 2100 Clarendon Blvd

Requirements:
Participants will be required as part of the course to conduct an individual or team research project on a topic of interest to them, and share their findings in a brief presentation to their classmates during a regular class session.
Participants will also be encouraged to commit to engage in at least ten hours of volunteer work in Arlington County after the ANC program is over and before the end of 2013.
Arlington Neighborhood College seeks participants who want to contribute to improving their neighborhoods, interested in addressing local issues, and willing to devote energy to community activities. In addition, applicants should be open to learning more about Arlington County and to practicing effective communication skills. Applicants should be willing to commit to attending the eight ANC sessions from April 4 to May 23, 2013.
