The Arlington County Community Services Board (ACCSB) recognizes staff and community members who demonstrate outstanding dedication and service to consumers with Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The Dr. Georgopolous Award is conferred upon a staff member who consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty by providing exemplary service directly or indirectly to a CSB client, program, or service. The Dr. Audrey Moss Award recognizes a staff person whose work demonstrates a fresh perspective, recovery-orientation, and visionary thinking and who is committed to community-based care. The Exemplary Staff Award is conferred on staff that embodies the spirit of outstanding service in their field. And the Community Partner Award is given to community members who, through their generous donations of goods, services, time or funding, support the ACCSB’s consumers. The Chairperson of the ACCSB, Ms. Carol Skelly, conferred the awards on behalf of the Board.
Ms. Meryl Davis, a Discharge Planner, received the Dr. Georgopoulos Award and was nominated by Ann Courembis for her “hard work and optimistic outlook.” Ms. Courembis stated that Ms. Davis “inspires consumers and colleague’s alike [and believes] that recovery and stability are an eventual, attainable goal for everyone.”

Dr. Grace Langebeck, Supervisor of the Forensic Case Management Program, received the Dr. Audrey Moss Award and was nominated by Leslie Weisman. Ms. Weisman stated of Ms. Langebeck, “She has a flexible attitude which allows her to “think outside the box” and work with her staff to serve our clients with compassion and commitment.” As a special guest, Mr. Tom Arnold, father of the late Dr. Moss, presented the Award along with Ms. Skelly.

Ms. Tisha Jones-Diggs, a Case Manager / Therapist, and Ms. Manisha Adhikari, an Administrative Assistant, both received Exemplary Staff Awards. Ms. Jones-Diggs was nominated by Ms. Shaquana Wiley who stated, “While doing a great job and some times a tasking job, with a high caseload, [Ms. Jones-Diggs] always presents with a cheerful disposition.” Dr. Carol Sacks, Mental Health Team B Supervisor, presented Ms. Jones-Diggs to the Board.

Ms. Adhikari was nominated by Dr. Alan Orenstein, who characterized her as “a unique and outstanding Administrative Assistant [who is] a creative and active problem-solver.” Ms. Cynthia Kemp, Executive Director of the Arlington County Community Services Board, presented Ms. Adhikari to the Board on behalf of Mr. Orenstein.

Two Community Partner Awards were presented to Mr. Jorge Fernandez, Manager of the Front Page Arlington restaurant, and Mr. Greg Cahill, Owner of Whitlow’s on Wilson restaurant. Mr. Fernandez has supported the ACCSB’s consumers in many ways, including his generous donation of food, beverages, and labor at the Intellectual Disabilities Proclamation Ceremony. Mr. Cahill, also a consistent ACCSB supporter, has brought cheer and tasty nourishment to the residents of one of the residential facilities on a regular basis. Mr. Cahill has also offered employment opportunities to consumers with disabilities. Each of these community partners should be commended for their support.

In addition to the staff and community partner awards, Ms. Skelly conferred awards of recognition to Ms. Van Newstrom, a current ACCSB member, for her advocacy and public awareness efforts, and Ms. Michelle Powell, a retiring member of the ACCSB, for her service.
