(effective January 24, 2012)The Planning Commission currently consists of 13 members appointed by the Arlington County Board for four-year terms. All commissioners are residents of the County and are qualified by knowledge and experience to make decisions on questions of community growth and development. Each year at the first official meeting after January 1, the Commission elects the position of chair and vice-chair. Also at that time, the Commission establishes its schedule for the coming year.

Rosemary Ciotti is President and CEO of Accessible Living, Incorporated of Arlington, Virginia. The company provides expert guidance in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, as well as, working with communities to increase the utility of the built environment through the concepts of Universal Design. Additionally, Accessible Living, Inc. coordinates health care for persons living in the community with spinal cord injuries. Rosemary is a frequent invited participant to conferences both locally and internationally.
Rosemary's passion for Wellness, Design, and the Built Environment evolved from her, more than 20 years of, experience as a nurse practitioner dedicated to the principals of promoting wellness. Rosemary became disabled in 1990 and along with her husband and three (3) children, needed to relocate due to a lack of accessibility in their suburban community.
Rosemary is also Executive Director of "Global Organization of Feminists with Disabilities" (GOFWD) (501 c 3) that advocates for human rights for women with disabilities. "GOFWD" has produced a manual, "Access Granted", through a Department of Justice Grant and Virginia Violence Against Women. The manual is a guide to meeting the needs of women with disabilities who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Rosemary sits on the Board of Directors of the Warren G. Stambaugh Foundation of Virginia and the "National Organization of Nurses with Disabilities" (NOND).
Rosemary has recently discovered hand-cycling and is now an avid fan of local bike trails.

Steve Cole was appointed to the Planning Commission in September, 2008. Mr. Cole has been active in Arlington civic affairs for more than two decades. He served as PTA president at his daughters’ elementary and high schools and was active on both the County Council of PTAs and the Arlington Schools Advisory Council on Instruction. In 1992-1993, Mr. Cole served on the Arlington Schools Futures Planning Steering Team. Most recently, he served on the Arlington County Elderly Readiness Task Force.
Mr. Cole’s training was in economics and public policy. Initially coming to Washington for government service, he worked on food assistance programs at the Department of Agriculture and health care programs at the Office of Management and Budget. In 1993, he moved to the private sector where he worked on health care policy issues for the hospital, pharmaceutical and health insurance industries.
Mr. Cole and his family have lived in Arlington for 24 years, initially in the Fairlington community and since 1990 in the Bluemont civic area. His wife, Martha Ware, is the Nurse Manager of Women’s Health Programs for the Arlington Free Clinic. Mr. Cole and Mrs. Ware have two daughters, both of whom graduated from H.B. Woodlawn Secondary Program.

Mr. Forinash is a former Vice-chair of the Transportation Commission who worked on the update of the County's Master Transportation Plan, and represented the Commission on Neighborhood Traffic Calming. He has been active in the Old Dominion Citizens Association, for which has was Vice-president in 2003-2006, and with the Key Elementary School PTA. Professionally, Chris is a transportation engineer by training who does policy analysis for the EPA office of Sustainable Communities and for the Northeast-Midwest Institute, and has a long list of publications in the areas of Transportation Planning and Smart Growth. A former Board member of the Washington Regional Network for the Livable Communities, he has been involved with the Transportation Research Board and the Congress for the New Urbanism.

Suzanne Klein was appointed to the Planning Commission in February 2010. She has served in a variety of roles for Arlington County including Vice Chair of the Historical Affairs and Landmarks Review Board, Vice Chair of the Design Review Committee, and Co-founder of both the Preservation Design Awards Program and the Historic Preservation Plan Advisory Committee. Suzanne currently serves on the Board of the Arlington Heritage Alliance.
Except for about two years, Suzanne has lived in Arlington since 1990 and in 1997 moved to the Leeway-Overlee neighborhood. She is a practicing registered architect with over twenty years of experience on educational, commercial, and residential projects in urban, suburban, and rural locations. Much of Suzanne's work has been in historically significant areas and she has championed numerous sustainable and certified buildings. Projects range from interiors, renovations, additions, new buildings, and master plans. She has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan."

Inta Malis has engaged in both school and civic affairs and served as president of her local elementary school PTA and her civic association. She has held leadership positions in the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee and the Arlington Public Schools Budget Advisory Council and was a member of the Task Force for Arlington's Future. In 2002 she chaired the Boundary Development and Program Planning Committee to redistrict south Arlington elementary schools. As a member of the Columbia Pike community Inta has been active in local revitalization efforts. She chaired the Columbia Forest Neighborhood Conservation Plan Committee, served for two terms on the Board of Directors of the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization and chaired the Columbia Pike Street Space Planning Task Force. Inta's professional background includes positions in transportation, manufacturing, and energy research and she served as a research fellow at the Logistics Management Institute. She is a graduate of Michigan State University.

Charles Monfort has served on the Planning Commission since October, 2005. He has been an active member of the Neighborhood Conversation Advisory Committee, the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board, the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Committee, and has served as Chair for both NCAC and HALRB. He was recently appointed member of the Public Facilities Review Committee.
Mr. Monfort has lived in Arlington County since 1982 and in the Cherrydale community since 1984. He has also served two terms as the President of the Cherrydale Citizens Association. His two children were educated in the Arlington Public Schools system; his son, Sam is currently attending the College of William and Mary, his daughter, Claire, is a junior attending Washington-Lee High School.
Mr. Monfort has worked for two members of Congress, and was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) for Policy and Planning from 1994 to 1998. Currently, he is partnered with Monfort-Lewis LLC, a government relations consulting firm.

Mrs. Kumm Morris is currently a member of the Urban Forestry Commission, and has been representing that body at Site Plan Review. A long-time County resident, she has been active inthe Rock Spring Civic Association and Jamestown Elementary School. A landscape architect by profession, until her retirement in 2010, Karen had a long career as a Master Planner/Urban Designer in Montgomery County, with work that ranged from Metro station area planning, to context-sensitive road codes, to public art guidelines. This fall she is to be honored as a member of the Council of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects, reflecting her lifetime contributions.

An Arlington resident since 1985, Ms. Savela is active on the Site Plan Review Committee and the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee, and is a member of the Pedestrian Advisory Group and the Arlington Small Business Task Force. Terry served as the president of the Lyon Park Citizens Association from 2000 to 2002 and as a member of the Lyon Park Community Center Board of Governors. Terry is active with the Friends of Arlington Boulevard and volunteers for local environmental organizations. Terry is a former vice president with The Lewin Group, a health care consulting firm in Falls Church, VA. She received her BA in economics and political science from Wellesley College in 1982.

Mr. Sockwell has been a member of the Planning Commission since 2007. Prior to 2007 he was an active member of the Transportation Commission and Neighborhood Traffic Calming Committee, which he chaired for many years.
A graduate of the University of Virginia and the Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Sockwell works as an attorney for the Federal Trade Commission, where he reviews mergers and acquisitions for potential antitrust problems. He has lived in Arlington for 39 years and in Lyon Village for 31 years. He served as President of the Lyon Village Citizens Association from 1996-1998. He has a wife and one daughter and may frequently be seen walking his dog in Lyon Village.
