Volunteer opportunities abound in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. You can volunteer as an aide in an adapted aquatics class, be special events assistant, help to remove invasive plants from our parks, lead a 4-H club, lead senior adults on bus excursions, and much, much more.
PLAY as a volunteer with children in our summer camps.
LEARN new skills as you join our team.
GROW as an individual and make a difference.
Here are just a few of the ways you can serve the Arlington community:
Summer Camps
Summer Camp Volunteer applications are now available. Check out the Summer Camp Volunteer page for more information.
Adapted Swimming
This is a learn to swim program for individuals age 3 to adult with developmental disabilities. "Buddies" are needed to assist one on one with participants in the water. Commitment to entire session (10 weeks) is preferred. There are 4 sessions each year, one per season. Spring Sessions begin Sunday, April 22. The Adapted Swimming class is part of a pilot program that offers incentives to individuals who volunteer with long term opportunities. Please see the full listing for details.
Special Olympics Assistants
Volunteer to assist with coaching Track & Field events for Special Olympics athletes ages 18 and up. Volunteers will assist during local, regional, and state competitions. You must be comfortable working with individuals with disabilities. Practices are held twice weekly and competitions are every other Saturday, April through June.
Summer Camp Volunteers (age 18 and up)
Volunteer at Arlington County Summer Camps for teens by assisting the staff with activities (creative arts, sports, etc.) and field trips. Volunteers with expertise in the environment, sports, cooking & nutrition, art, and outdoor education can volunteer weekly (or daily if your schedule permits) leading activities at Arlington County Junior Jams camps. Junior Jams offers teens a chance to "drop in" and have some supervised fun and we need volunteers to help lead some of those fun activities.
